There is a great temple and shrine in Nikko at Tochigi pref in Japan, Nikkō Tōshō-gū that is a so great that a lot of foreign people visit there before COVID-19. I definitely recommend visiting Nikko Tosho-gu during your trip to Japan.
Nikkō Tōshō-gū is a very extravagant piece of architecture.
In 1999, the two Shrines and Temple (Toshogu, Futarasan Shrine, Rinnoji) “Shrines and Temples of Nikko” were registered as a World Heritage Site.
Yomei Gate is located in front of Karamon and is the most luxurious gate in Nikko Toshogu Shrine.
The golden Yomei Gate, which is decorated with countless sculptures, is designated as a national treasure.
“Gate of Higurashi” is a gate that is so fine that you can forget about the sunset.
The sculptures include figures, spirit beasts, flowers and birds, plants, animals, crests, etc., and represent various teachings.
