Ohagi ~Japanse rice ball coated red beans~

Ohagi is a rice ball coated with sweetened red beans, soybean flour or sesame.

We offer ohagi, bean cake, to the Buddha at Higan period.

Azuki beans is believed it can keep off evil, Japanese eats ohagi during HIgan.

Higan means equinoctial week, a seven-day period surrounding the Vernal Equinox Day or Autumnal Equinox Day.

It is said that the time to see again one’s own ancestors who have passed on to the next life.

Therefore, people in Japan visit their family graves and hold a memorial service by offering flowers, incense and Ohagi,sweet made with a sticky rice ball covered by red bean paste for them.
